Je hebt ze vast weleens voorbij zien komen: de te gekke tekeningen en producten van Makii. Kleine Rotterdammer is fan van al dit moois!

Turbo grote kleurplaten, toffe muurstickers voor kinderkamers, art prints en wenskaarten: Makii heeft het allemaal! En alle producten bevatten de toffe designs die er speciaal op gericht zijn om kinderen te laten experimenteren met hun creativiteit. Kijk, daar worden we nou blij van.

Sinds kort tref je ook turbo kleurplaten in het assortiment aan. Een slag kleiner dan de kleurplaten die je eerder in de collectie tegenkwam, maar met een afmeting van 48 x 69 centimeter nog steeds erg groot. En door het thema ‘reizen’ van deze kleurplaten, zijn ze ook nog eens super leuk om mee te nemen of om voor te bereiden op vakantie. Elke kleurplaat is ook nog eens extra voorzien van een speciaal mini-paspoort dat volstaat met ontdekkingen. Beter kan niet, toch? Momenteel zijn de kleurplaten verkrijgbaar in de landen Nederland, Amerika en Japan en heel binnenkort worden hier ook de landen Spanje, Frankrijk, Italië en Groot-Britannië aan toegevoegd.

Na de meiden mogen de jongens natuurlijk niet achterblijven. Ook voor de boys mogen de schoenen of stoeren laarzen weer gevuld worden. THE BEST BLOCKS

If you have children you definitely have a least one set of blocks. The classic toy...

The toy that lasts forever and that babies, toddlers and also older children can play with!

It is a good gift as well... like I said - a classic. A lovely set of wooden blocks...

We are in 2014 and there are many different versions. For design lovers, traditional sets, advanced, colourful and and and... here is a selection, my favourite blocks:

1. Art meets science in this set of nesting hand-painted blocks that use leverage and counterbalance to build clever modular structures that adapt to and inspire any builder's imagination, from a toddler's to an architect's.

2. Mini cubes. Create lots of fun houses, animals and and and...

3. Classic set to learn numbers, colours and animals.

4. A doll house made of wooden blocks. With lots of great colours and different shapes.

5. Eight angles and a cube create sophisticated constructions with piers, columns and supports. Angular {also from Naef} is a game with the right angle and colours.

6. Classic set of building blocks in easy to see colours - even babies will love it.

7. Wooden cubes with the numbers 0-9 for the design lover {and their parents}.

8. Black & White blocks from NAEF for the advanced block builder. The cube is divided several times in adherence to the golden ratio and surrounded by black shapes. During play, these become foundations, walls or roofs and a player the architect. {forgot to add the number above}



1. Wooden blocks with a little cart. Perfect to keep them all in place. 28 hand painted wooden blocks. One side features a very lovely racoon. the other sides have letters and numbers for some good fun and educational play.

2. Classic and colourful building blocks from Grimms.

3. The facemaker. One of our favourites and we especially like the mini version because we take it along when travelling or going out for dinner... make faces with the blocks, its so much fun for everyone!

4. Pyramid maths blocks. As they stack and sort the blocks of varying heights, younger children learn early math concepts such same and different, smaller and bigger.
With the same set of 100 blocks, older children can be playfully introduced to mathematical concepts from addition, subtraction, and multiplication to counting by multiples, proportion, sequencing, and decimals fractions.

5. From famous German wooden toy maker Anker and for older kids because the pieces are relatively small but that also means you can build lots of fun things and I also know this is a big hit with parents, grand parents, oncles...

6. Another classic and for all ages. Wooden planks to build anything your creativity allows...

7. Definitely nice to look at and also a little different - those blocks need to be balanced to build.

8. Ant blocks. Trails of ants connect on all six sides of these sixteen blocks, forming never-ending patterns for your kids to explore. Each set contains images of ant hills, a queen with her eggs, and a spider, the ant’s nemesis.

Vandaag deel ik een van mijn favorieten, voor wat betreft speelgoed: Millergoodman!  Leuk, duurzaam en ook nog eens ontzettend mooi. Nog niet in huis, maar daar gaat vast snel verandering in komen. Want nu begint bij ons de leeftijd dat er echt gebouwd en gepuzzeld gaat worden. Tijd dus voor Millergoodman. 25 houten blokken, die overigens gemaakt zijn van milieuvriendelijk duurzaam rubberhout, met gifvrije gekleurde vakken voor een ultra modern accent waarmee je vele ontwerpen kunt maken. Dieren, gezichten, voertuigen maar ook gebouwen. Ja, dit zorgt voor oneindig speelplezier - en creativiteit - aan de keukentafel. De ShapeMaker! En kies je voor de ShapeMaker DeLuxe krijg je er een mooie zwarte doos bij, die je dan ook nog aan de muur zou kunnen hangen. Maar wij zien hem liever mooi op de eettafel.

Nieuw is de Mini ShapeMaker! Net zo leuk, maar net een maatje kleiner en lichter zodat hij ook gemakkelijk in je tas past. Handig toch, voor als je een lunch- of speelafspraak hebt. Daarnaast heeft Millergoodman ook de PlayShapes uitgebracht. Inmiddels gevestigd design. Ja, want dat is het wel. Een unieke set van 74 geometrische figuren. Prachtig gemaakt en waarmee je in 3D bouwt. Wow, Millergoodman..you did a good job!

MillerGoodman featured in the weekend magazine of the Dutch newspaper NRC, 

curated by Piet Hein Eek this week.

Wooden toys

David Goodman and Zoe Miller together form the business MillerGoodman, situated

 in Brighton, England. The’re funny and touching, the figures Goodman and Milller showed last year, on invitation by Piet Hein Eek at the Dutch Design Week. They’re all unique pieces, something in the middle of sculptures and toys, composed with new parts and objects from flee markets.
“I love old stuff that holds its own story”, Zoe Miller says. “Toys you love last longer and therefore is more durable. Moreover toys make memories.” David Goodman:”Our children must not only play on an iPad. It’s a whole different experience to grab physical objects, stack them and play with them.”
Both these sculptures as the wooden toys MillerGoodman produces in edition, arise from their partnership with the Tate museum in London, for whom they made three childrensbooks. The books inspired them to also design toys. Everytime it’s about loose wooden blocks, from where shapes are composed. Designs on the border of art, sculpture and toys, more likely to find in a shop for interior design rather than a toy shop.
Goodman:”We’re doing research now, how to make our toys more affordable without producing it in plastic in China.” Miller:”We hope the user, child or adult, will play with the artistic freedom of an artist. Wo don’t offer a completed process but a system you can make you own. People often send us pictures of what they’ve created with our toys. We call it Open-ended play.”

Q&A with owner Annika @ Orange Mayonnaise:

Can you tell us a little about how Orange Mayonnaise started? What is your inspiration, and how did you come up with the name?

Orange Mayonnaise is started in 2012, after working for 12 years in the fashion industry; designing as a freelancer for women and men. It was time for a new challenge. The first idea was to start my own label. But eventually the idea was born, to start an online shop. This shop brings together 2 of my biggest passions in life; (my) kids and fashion.

My inspiration is....  my kids and every day life.

The name had to be funny, international and Dutch at the same time, and eventually it became a combination of the dutch national color and a sauce where Dutch are known for. (Quote by Vincent (Samuel L.Jackson) in the classic movie Pulp Fiction; "You know what they put on French fries in Holland instead of Ketchup ? ......"

I love shops with their own sense of identity, based on your selection how would you describe Orange Mayonnaise's?

Orange Mayonnaise is a shop for mums and their kids. Here you can find fun clothes, in beautiful bright colors and with bold designs, next to comfortable and luxurious basic garments in ridge, solid fabrics. Combining these 2 styles will give you an unique look.  Orange Mayonnaise believes that everyone has the talent to create their most beautiful outfits themselves. And to make it a bit easier, we created a SHOP THE LOOK section, a 'My favorites', drag and drop system and also (as of today) a SHOP THE LOOK CREATOR...... have fun !
