VISITING A WINDMILL

by

VISITING A WINDMILL WITH EMILY KORNYA AND FRIENDS

Together with cheese, wooden shoes and tulips, the windmills are one of the things Holland is most famous for. Tourists flock from all over the world to catch a glimpse of the windmills when visiting. But the windmills are not just a pleasure to the eye in it’s typical, flat landscape.

The windmills in Holland played a crucial role in the development of their country. Windmills were used in various ways throughout the history of Holland. They were used to create land, build ships and produce flower, oil and even mustard!

Last week Emily Kornya hopped on a train to Enschede, Holland, to visit a windmill for the first time in her life. We visited The Lonneker Molen, definitely one of the most beautiful and interesting windmill in Holland if you ask us.

This particular windmill is historical and has unique properties, such as thatching on top of a brick structure. In addition to walking around the outside it is possible to visit (on Wednesday and Saturday’s) three floors of the four-floor windmill and walk around the upper part as well. The shop on the first floor sells stone ground grains and mixes made at the mill and from products by local farmers.

Definitly worth the trip and a great location for a playdate! Get inspired!
