WAITING FOR THE TRAIN

by

WAITING FOR THE TRAIN WITH EMILY KORNYA

Waiting is an art form. And there are many varieties. Waiting with children in tow is its own specialty. Waiting alone in a strange place uses a different skill set. Waiting in a crowd and trying to look like you belong is very different from waiting up at night for someone to come home. Waiting in a confined space like in a car during a traffic jam demands another kind of patience. I’ve reached a point where I don’t mind waiting very often. If I pace it right, it can even be pleasant.

Emily Kornya, who recently moved to Berlin, is ready to take the train her friends Julia , Nadia and Sophia. All they have to do is wait for the train to arrive and they don’t mind waiting a few minutes as you can see!

Hey, here comes the train! Time to go. Get inspired!

VISITING A WINDMILL

by

VISITING A WINDMILL WITH EMILY KORNYA AND FRIENDS

Together with cheese, wooden shoes and tulips, the windmills are one of the things Holland is most famous for. Tourists flock from all over the world to catch a glimpse of the windmills when visiting. But the windmills are not just a pleasure to the eye in it’s typical, flat landscape.

The windmills in Holland played a crucial role in the development of their country. Windmills were used in various ways throughout the history of Holland. They were used to create land, build ships and produce flower, oil and even mustard!

Last week Emily Kornya hopped on a train to Enschede, Holland, to visit a windmill for the first time in her life. We visited The Lonneker Molen, definitely one of the most beautiful and interesting windmill in Holland if you ask us.

This particular windmill is historical and has unique properties, such as thatching on top of a brick structure. In addition to walking around the outside it is possible to visit (on Wednesday and Saturday’s) three floors of the four-floor windmill and walk around the upper part as well. The shop on the first floor sells stone ground grains and mixes made at the mill and from products by local farmers.

Definitly worth the trip and a great location for a playdate! Get inspired!

THE DUTCH COUNTRYSIDE

by

THE DUTCH COUNTRYSIDE WITH EMILY KORNYA

While Amsterdam’s popularity is well-deserved, travelers who don’t venture outside the city are missing out on some of Europe’s most charming countryside. And in a country as tiny as the Netherlands, day-tripping is easy to do. Within a half-hour of leaving Amsterdam’s main train station, you can be deep in the Dutch countryside — awash with tulips, red-brick houses, quaint waterways, and black-and-white cows.

Emily, who currently lives in Berlin, decided to take the train to Holland when she found out I was going to be there as well. At first I thought ‘Oh great, she booked a ticket to Amsterdam!’ but then I found out she booked a ticket to Enschede of all places. A little bit longer than a half-hour, but totally worth the trip!

Enschede is the largest city in the Twente region and is located in the Overijssel province of the Netherlands. This green city is surrounded by nature and is an excellent place for cycling, walkin, horseback riding and playdates. In 2003 Enschede was even named the greenest city in Holland!

Get inspired by these stunning photo’s taken by Emily Kornya. Her very first time in the Netherlands!
