ATHLEISURE FOR KIDS

Have you heard of Athleisure? It’s the new fashion for wearing comfortable, athletic style clothes in an everyday setting. With the recent Rio Olympics inspiring our everyday fashion there is nothing more ideal for kids than adopting this comfortable fashion trend for going back to school.

Athleisure refers to the fashion trend in which clothing that is often designed for workouts and other sport activities is worn in other settings, such as during work, school or other social environments. In adult fashion, there are various brands including Uniqlo, the Kooples, Topshop, and Lacoste among others, who are defining style statements with athleisure looks. Sometimes, it can be difficult to define the casual sportswear look with the leisure look. Some nice tips for sporting these looks can often be layering a pair of shorts over leggings, or a dressed up hoodie over a casual outfit. The athleisure look can often be unisex. THE ANIMALS OBSERVATORY – THE FINCH COLLECTION

The Animals Observatory has just launched a new capsule collection inspired by the Finch School of Art. So what is this school all about? Designer Laia Aguilar pays hommage to this all girl’s art college in New York that was founded in 1900. Mrs. Cosgrave, the director & founder of Finch College said, “My chief object is to awaken Social Consciousness in the girls. I want my graduates to become powers in their communities, not idle fashionable women. I don’t teach these young girls actual Socialism, but Social Activism.” According to the Finch and it’s Future brochure, this college seems to have been quite a revolutionary “community in which each person is a creative participant as a learner, a worker, and a citizen.”

Although the school closed in 1976, the spirit carries on with this beautiful collection for boys and girls. Cherry red, bright blue and off-white retro arty prints make for timeless kids fashion in this new capsule collection by The Animals Observatory (a.k.a. TAO).

After the launch of the very first collection by The Animals Observatory, most shops were sold out within just a few days! However, if you happen to be lucky enough… there are a few pieces left to be found!

With original prints and cool cuts inspired by 1970’s graphics, Henry Moore sculptures, Elaine Constantine photographs, Barragán architecture, Le Corbusier, and even Charlotte Perriand furniture, we are big fans of this original children’s brand. The Animals Observatory also known as T.A.O. is known for their “timeless garments for the children of our children.” Some of my favorite pieces in the opening collection include the Villa Arpel sweatshirt and the Bomar Pluto playsuit. Within the collection is the T.A.O. WORKERS line which is a wardrobe full of play clothes inspired by uniforms and trades. It is high quality, everyday wear with an extra touch of design including wide cut overalls which look amazing over any top and ample pocket dresses that are ideal for wearing with or without layers to show your own personality.

I am already a big fan of several items in this brand’s collection. I also appreciate their slogan, “Be a good animal, true to your instincts” which mixes just right with my kids’ everyday lifestyle.

Little Leopard Fashion

Kids fashion designers have been feeling feline this Spring and are inspired by all different types of leopard prints.  Several kids fashion brands have gone all out interpreting and re-interpreting different ways to love leopard from pastel, black and white, and camouflage prints.   This spotted print proves to be timeless and also easy to wear!  Our kids adore animals and in particular friendly felines including leopards who are fierce and strong!  So if you too are a leopard fan, get ready to face the jungle in the playground and don’t forget to put your little one in any of these roaring varieties!

Pretty in Pineapple – Pineapple Fashion

Pineapples have been popping up everywhere in fashion. Even throughout the history of fashion from Stella McCartney’s Spring Summer 2001 Pineapple inspired swimsuits, to Mini Rodini’s pineapple clothes gracing the cover of Milk, to the Prairies de Paris Pineapple t-shirt that swiftly sold out.

Why is the pineapple print such a success? We think it’s because in March, Spring is officially creeping around the corner and we are in need of something sweet. Pineapples can’t grow without sunshine and are a symbol of sun and warmth yet to come. Yellow and green colorful pineapples are a beautiful and graphic fruit not only coming up all over fashion, but also on our walls and interiors. Who’s complaining? We are definitely not against a breath of freshness and humor and if you are not a pineapple lover, you can always fall back on the flamingo, another trend that is also popping up from last year!
